How and Where to Get Help For Your Teen’s Mental Health
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the U.S. Surgeon General Murthy, symptoms of both anxiety and depression have doubled during this time with about 25% of the youth experiencing depressive symptoms and about 20% experiencing symptoms of anxiety. There has also been a rise in symptoms associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). On the brighter side, mental disorders are easy to prevent and treat.
Possible signs that your teen is struggling with their mental health:
- Changes in eating and/or sleeping habits
- Substance abuse
- Prolonged negative moods
- Changes in school performance
- Excessive worry or anxiety
- Hyperactivity
- Frequent outbursts of anger
- Social Withdrawal
Where to Find Help:
- Get a referral from your family doctor
- Use Psychology Today to find a counselor.
- Get a list of providers from your insurance company
- Use your company’s Employment Assistance Program (EAP) for a referral
- Find a local teen support group
